My First Semester of College
As I went into fall semester of
college, which was my first semester of college ever, I knew it wasn’t going to
be easy, but I did not think it was going to be this hard. Moving into an
apartment by myself went way better I than expected. Going from living with my
parents for about 18 years to living on my own was a huge step in life for me. Not
many people are blessed to be able to live on their own at 18 years old, but I was
one of the few who were. I did not pass my TSI which made me have to take remedial
classes so that did not go so well. I plan to take the test again in December and
this time study for it unlike all the other times I’ve took it. I always made
good grades on my homework and class work which helped my grade out. I had to
drop two classes due to failing them. I know that if I would have tried harder
and was focused more on school I wouldn’t have had to drop them. I really loved
meeting new people in all my different classes and I loved 2 of my professors that
pushed me to do my best and wanted to see me succeed. With their encouraging
words I learned that I’m much smarter and can accomplish more than I thought I could.
I really hated all the homework that was given out. It was a big change from
high school where I never had homework to take home and do. My performance this
semester wasn’t very well so next semester I plan on focusing most importantly
on school and not on going out with my friends. This semester was a big eye
opener and made me see how important school really is and how college isn’t just
one big party. I plan on getting my life together and trying not just a little
hard, but a lot harder. I would like to get somewhere in life so that make my
family proud of me more than they already are and the only way to do that is to
stay focused and don’t let people and fun distract me. I’m so hard on myself so
instead of telling myself I can do anything I want if I put my mind to it, I tend
to tell myself I can’t, or this is too hard and boring, so I don’t want to do this.
I have been working on my attitude towards school so next semester should be
just fine if I keep up the positivity and don’t let the negativity come back
into my life.
The homework load a lot for me too and I hope you keep up the motivation to do better next semester.
ReplyDeleteI agree you always have the positivity in your life and never have negativity because that can always bring you down and no hand you the motivation to doing anything in school or even the class work. Just hang in there and you will do better then you have ever before.
ReplyDeleteThe attitude aspect is as significant, arguably moreso, than intellectual aptitude. Good on you for recognizing this.
ReplyDeleteI like how you look at things in a positive way, i wish i was more like that. Good luck on your new attempt on the TSI! i am going to retake it in December as well!
ReplyDeletegood luck on the tsi in December. i retook it and passes so now i am signed up for no remedial classes next semester.
ReplyDeleteHaving no homework in high school I cannot relate, I had so much that I was pulling "all nighters" sometimes. It is good that you are going to retake the TSI and I hoe you do well!
ReplyDeleteI always had no homework in high school so I can relate with you on all the homework. I took the TSI this morning and it is only 24 questions. I advise you give it a try. This class actually helped me pass it.
ReplyDeletehaving no homework my senior year in high school i can relate but the other years i can not, but the homework in college is so annoying. but its a great thing youre going to retake your test, we in the same boat.
ReplyDeleteTotally understand where you're coming from about moving away from your parents and how it is a huge step. I really enjoyed how you ended with what your goals are and how to make your family proud.
